Facebook app: Open links in an external browser
There is a specific problem with the Facebook app browser that makes occasional requests to websites without previously set cookies. This seems to be a bug in the browser that should be fixed soon. The simplest way to avoid this problem is to continue using the Facebook app, but not using the app’s internal browser. This can be done in the following steps:
- Click on the burger menu in the upper right corner to open the settings menu
- Select Application Settings from the menu
- Enable “Links open externally” (this will use your device’s default browser)
Windows
Enabling cookies in Internet Explorer 9
- Open an Internet browser
- Click Tools (or the gear icon in the upper-right corner)> Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced
- Click Skip automatic cookie handling
- Choose the first-party cookies and third-party cookies, select Accept
- Click OK and OK
Enabling cookies in Internet Explorer 10, 11
- Open an Internet browser
- Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Privacy tab, then under Settings, move the slider to the bottom to allow all cookies, and then click OK.
- Click OK
Enabling cookies in Firefox
- Open a Firefox browser
- Click Tools> Options> Privacy
- Click Accept site cookies
- Select Accept third-party cookies
- Click Keep until they expire
- Click OK
Enable cookies in Google Chrome
- Open the Google Chrome browser
- Click the Tools icon or type in the Go to chrome: // settings / URL window, press Enter
- Click Advanced> Select Privacy> Content Settings
- Select Allow local data to be set (recommended)
- Click Finish
Mac
Enabling cookies in Firefox
- Open a Firefox browser
- Firefox> Preferences
- Click the Privacy tab
- Under History, select Firefox: ‘Use history custom settings’
- Select the ‘Accept cookies from sites and then Accept third-party cookies
- Click OK
Enable cookies in Google Chrome
- Open the Google Chrome browser
- Chrome> Settings
- Click Show advanced settings at the bottom …
- Under Privacy, click Content Settings …
- Under Cookies, click Allow local information to be set (recommended)
- Click OK.
Enabling cookies in Safari
- On safari
- Safari> Preferences
- Click the Privacy tab
- Under Block Cookies, click Never
Enabling cookies in mobile safari (iPhone, iPad)
- Press the Home button or unlock your phone / iPad to go to the Home screen
- Click the Settings icon.
- Choose Safari from the options menu.
- From the safari menu, select “accept cookies”.
- From the ‘Accept Cookies’ menu, select ‘Visit.’
- Press the Home button to return to the iPhone Home screen.
- Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.
- You must restart Safari for the cookie settings change to take effect. To restart Safari, press and hold the Home button (for about 5 seconds) until the iPhone / iPad screen goes blank and the Home screen appears.
- Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.
