Leishmania mosquitoes favor marijuana at any other plant at the time of eating, according to a study published by the US Academy of Sciences. Studies in Brazil, Israel, Palestine, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan show that the demonstration was unanimous among all analyzed insect populations. It was also demonstrated that once planted consumption was in large part.
More than the curiosity of these mosquito habits, reinforcement represents a strategy to combat this population. "Another possible measure would be to locate traces far beyond the house, precisely to avoid the presence of mosquitoes in the house," said Cidacs, the Data Integration and Knowledge for Health unit (Cidacs), the Bahian Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Artur Queiroz, responsible for the country's research.
Leishmaniasis is a serious illness. There is no vaccine to prevent infection, which occurs in the control of contaminated mosquitoes. The treatment available but can not remove the parasite. The pathogens have long-term fever, enlarged liver and spleen, weight loss, weakness, muscle strength and anemia. When treated, your leishmaniasis may result in death in 90% of cases.
In Brazil, the insects analyzed in the study were collected at Camaçari, Bahia. "We identify traces of the marijuana factory in both rural and urban areas," says Souza. One possibility is that in the urban area mosquitoes are fed into plants that have grown in water.
Collections were also made at five points in the Middle East and Africa. "The priority of marijuana journals took place in all places," says a Brazilian researcher. Even when there were plenty of other vegetables. "We still do not know the reason for such a preference," says Queiroz, Brazil, responsible for accounting modeling and research.
To make the study, scientists are investigating the insect digestive system. Mosquitoes with the highest concentration of herbs in the organism were found in the Tubas region of Palestine. The areas under investigation include Tubas and Camaçari, the Jewish desert in the West Bank, the city of Bura Kazakhstan, the Sde Eliyahu area in Israel, and Sheraro Ethiopia.
The study analyzed both infected and non-infected mosquitoes. Female leishmaniasis-mediated insects nourish both blood and sap. The men, on the other hand, only feed the sap.
The devil who causes leishmaniasis leaves many mosquitoes known in Brazil as mosquitoes. Leishmania is of two different types: rash (skin manifestation) and visceral, more severe. In 2010-2014, about 17,000 new cases of Visceral Leishmania and more than 1,100 deaths were registered. According to the Ministry of Health, the situation is estimated at 22 thousand per year.
