The E. coli O157: H7 contaminated foods may not be brittle or fragrant, but may cause you to become ill. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, mild or severe abdominal cramps and fluid into the bloodstream.

In serious illness, some people may have seizures or stroke, need blood transfusions and renal dialysis or live permanent kidney damage. In serious cases of illness, people may die.

Background

This reminder was triggered by US recovery, due to a study on the E. coli O157: H7 food-mediated outbreak associated with romaine salad consumption.

The Canadian Food Inspectorate (CFIA) works with the US Food and Drug Administration and carries out a food safety investigation that may lead to the return of other products. If other high-risk products are reminded, CFIA will notify the general public of updated Food Recall Warnings.

CFIA checks that the industry removes the removed product from the market.
