The health authority made a positive assessment after the massive vaccination of rabies in 11 municipalities in the municipality was terminated.
The purpose of these measures was to prevent rabies, a viral zoonosis characterized by acute encephalomyelitis with a lethality of 100%, even though exceptional cases have been described. The transfer is by the animal's saliva bitten or in contact with mucous membranes or wounds when it reaches the nervous system. Animals that can convey this disease can be bats, dogs, foxes, that is, warm-blooded animals.
Alejandro García's Health Authority Balance was Positive "These rabies operations, carried out in conjunction with the Seremas and the three municipalities in the region, were able to vaccinate 1 539 pets, which means massive activity was of great importance for the community to prevent rabies."
In addition, the health authority stressed the importance of the action and stated that "to date, we have received 52 bat samples that have been conquered by the community and sent to the National Public Health Institute, four of which were positive," he said.
The activities were carried out in 11 municipalities, including Canela, Coquimbo, La Serena, La Higuera, Punitaqui, Ovalle, Salamanca, Los Vilos, Paihuano, Illapel and Vicuña.
