NASA released new images this week showing how the Ingenuity helicopter on the Perseverance rover is preparing for its first flight to Mars.

First flight on Mars

The weight of ingenuity on Mars is nearly 680 grams – which would be 1.8 pounds on Earth – and the height 49 centimeters. It gets its power six lithium-ion batteries, which are charged via a solar panel mounted on the top of the rotor. It also has two cameras, one in black and white for navigation and another in color, aimed at the terrain.

After leaving in July last year and traveling about 480 million miles, Perseverance landed on Mars on February 18 to begin its mission: to look for evidence of life on the red planet.
