Research: Drinking coffee can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's

The research team used two coffee beans, namely light roast, dark roast and roasting decaffeinated dark.

The phenylindans are able to prevent or further inhibit the blending of two protein fragments (beta-amyloid and tau) which are common in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's pathogens.

"This is the first time anyone has studied how phenylindan interacts with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's," said Ross Mancini, who was also involved in the study.

He explained that the next step is to study how useful and whether these compounds have the ability to enter the bloodstream or pass through the blood-brain barrier.

However, he admitted that further studies were needed before the benefits could be transferred to therapeutic alternatives.
