"Today, greening is becoming more and more important, and car manufacturers have to agree on their models with stricter CO2 emissions. Innovations in the combustion engine and in new power plants make it possible to offer both a less polluting and a cheaper model.When you decide to buy a new car you need to take into account not only the fuel you use because long- belief always pays off, is not necessarily true today, "says Tomas Pulikas, Director of Consumer Loans and Automotive Finance, at Swedbank.
According to T.Puliko, about two out of three new passenger cars currently sold in Lithuania consist of petrol-powered cars. The remainder of the model consists of diesel-powered models, with several percent of all hybrid vehicles or sales coming from electric cars. In addition to car sales and special model features, two other important factors affecting car purchase include its cost and operating costs.
How to evaluate cars with different technology engines according to these criteria? In order to make a more objective assessment one can use one of the most popular German manufacturer's versatile petrol, diesel and hybrid versions.
The price of the same model is up to 50 percent
"If you decide to buy this model, at least you would pay for it with a 1.4-liter petrol engine, the new model will cost you about $ 28,000. Take advantage of the usual car hire and buy this car in five years at 30% of the residual value you have to pay around 302 euros a month, "- commented the expert.
If a resident chooses a model with a diesel engine and similar dynamic properties it would cost about 32 thousand. or 14% more expensive. Thus, the monthly rental fee of EUR 345 would increase.
Finally, the hybrid model with a rechargeable battery costs 50% today. more for a model with a petrol engine and its monthly rental fee in the above-mentioned circumstances would be € 435. However, the hybrid system is far more productive than an internal combustion engine, the operation and regular maintenance of such a car are cheaper compared to diesel or gasoline models.

Lower costs compensate for the starting price?
According to T.Pulic, the average fuel consumption of the hybrid model is very low and according to the manufacturer's data 1.6 kilometers to 100 km. The average fuel consumption of the diesel engine is almost 3 times higher and reaches 4.6 liters when the petrol model is 5.1 liters.
"If you drive more miles a year, cost-effectiveness is more important, for example, if you drive about 10,000 cars a year, costs about 637 euros, diesel fuel about 565 euros and a hybrid – about 200 euros per cargo price in mid-November according to the fuel consumption of the petrol model, said T.Pulikas.
If monthly rental payments and average fuel consumption are collectively assessed, the petrol engine is still the most affordable option for which you pay about € 355 per month. At that time, the diesel discount and fuel consumption cost 392 euros a month, and the hybrid model was about 450 euros.
T.Pulikas pointed out that if the distance traveled is significantly higher and reaches for example 25 thousand. the attractiveness of cost-effective models should increase. But in this case too, the gasoline model is the cheapest option – monthly rental costs and fuel costs are around 435 euros. The cost of diesel and hybrid models is similar – in both cases they are about EUR 470.
Additional benefits of hybrid models
These calculations are based on the manufacturer's average fuel consumption. In reality, they can vary according to driving style or driving conditions. For example, the advantage of a hybrid model can expose more time driving around the city while driving the diesel more time on the way to the city.

However, car manufacturers will continue to invest in the development of hybrid and electric models, but the situation may change in the near future in the design of incentive schemes that these authorities can buy for such cars.
