PETAAMINEN JAYA: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak asks who can pay a deposit through the 20% fundmyHome system.
On Facebook broadcasts, he said that on the system's website it was found that the deposit is RM 65,000 and older.
"Anyone who wants to pay a deposit" is at least 100,000 RM and the unit will be completed in 2020, "he argues that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng does not know the people's need and capabilities.
He also sarcastically asked whether the deposit was based on monthly salaries from ministers today.
The former Finance Minister noted that many of the first time home buyers are young people who have difficulty getting deposits.
"I'm worried about the fact that some would use shortcuts and would have to liabilities for the deposit and continue to burden its economy with no certainty that after five years they might even have owned the house," he said.
Najib noted that the previous administration had taken several initiatives that first aided buyers, including the youth system, providing 100% funding for the first time to buyers; MyDeposit and Youth Transitions, enabling young people to rent five years in a 30% lower market.
He added that the Barisan Nasional government had taken the pro-Rakyat position to help them find a home.
"Pakatan Harapan's government should have been able to imagine in detail their initiatives they have announced and their long-term implications in the reckoning. Do not do things in the middle," he added.
