The official visit of President Klaus Iohannis to the Republic of Latvia, which was due to take place on Friday and Saturday, has been postponed after the President of Latvia confirmed the SARS-CoV2 infection as positive. He was contacted by the Head of State in Malmö, Sweden, which led him to take the COVID test.
“The official visit of Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to the Republic of Latvia, which should have taken place between 15 and 16 October, has been postponed because the Latvian president has been confirmed positive for SARS-CoV2 infection,” the presidential administration confirmed to Agerpres on Thursday.
The presidential administration determined for Digi24.ro that President Klaus Iohannis was tested and the result was negative after returning from Sweden, where he was in contact with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits.
According to Latvian media, President Egils Levits, who returned from a working visit to Sweden on Wednesday evening, underwent a rapid COVID-19 antigen test, which showed a positive result. The President of Latvia then performed a PCR test, which also confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.
The President of Latvia was scheduled to meet his Estonian counterpart Alar Karis on Thursday and President Klaus Iohannis on Friday. The President of Latvia personally called the Romanian Head of State to explain the situation and to postpone the visit.
