The National Assembly (AN) condemned Celso Russomanno, the current Speaker of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), for disregarding his role by not allowing Venezuela to be fully integrated into the regional court.
The complaint was made on Wednesday by AN Vice President Iris Varela while appearing in the media Wednesday at the Caracas Federal Legislative Palace, AVN said.
He explained that Russomanno “ignores recommendations on what to do, such as our full presence,” Varela stressed.
In this regard, the alternate explained that a Commission had been set up to travel to Montevideo in Uruguay in the coming days to meet the members of the Management Board.
The delegation includes alternates Saúl Ortega and Oscar Rondero at the invitation of the Board.
Varela added that the President of Parlasur, who is linked to the President of Brazil, far-right Jair Bolsonaro, ignores mandates and regulations.
In addition, it refuses to perform its duties as institutions so that MEPs can carry out their duties, said the vice-president of AN.
“There is no other explanation as to why Venezuela is being prevented from exercising its rights as a member of Mercosur,” he stressed.
In mid-May, the Venezuelan branch of the southern parliament was officially installed in Caracas.
The Venezuelan delegation will be chaired by Saúl Ortega and Iris Varela, Vice-Chair of this international body.
